What is an A Grade Contractor?

You may have seen contractor grades before, but what is an “A” grade contractor? What are the responsibilities of such a person and how do they work with you to make your home remodeling or building process go smoothly? Here we will explore what an A Grade Contractor is and why you should use one.

An A-Grade Contractor is a contractor that has met the criteria to be accepted into the A Grade Network of approved contractors.

In order to be an A Grade Contractor, a contractor must meet the following requirements:

  • Be licensed and insured.
  • Have at least three years of experience in their field.
  • Have good ratings and reviews from customers on our website.
  • Provide a warranty for their work and the materials they use (a year is preferred).
  • Be customer service-oriented and respectful of homeowners’ needs, wishes, and timelines when performing work on their properties

The grading system is self-regulated.

The grading system is self-regulated—meaning the contractors themselves are responsible for assigning their own grades. This doesn’t mean they lie, but it does mean that a C grade contractor is probably more like a B-minus in reality, and an A grade contractor might actually be an A-plus.

This means that companies are graded on the quality of the work they perform, and not just on their marketing strategies.

You will see many companies advertising as A or B grade contractors, but not all of these are legitimately graded.

An A Grade Contractor is licensed by the Victorian Building Authority (VBA) in accordance with the Domestic Builders Act 1995 and meets all requirements for an A Grade Builder as defined by this legislation.

A Grade Building Contractors are required to perform to certain standards and adhere to specific rules and regulations.

This means that companies are graded on the quality of the work they perform, and not just on their marketing strategies.
