Major problems can lead to just a simple loose bricks. In some cases, a whole entire wall can collapse with a simple fix. Luckily, the process is very easy to do which can ultimately prevent any damages from occurring. Fixing loose bricks is actually basic masonry work. Being able to do this is really simple specially with easy instructions at hand! Let’s get started!
Remove the old mortar by chiseling it. Using your tool, hold it at a low angle under the mortar and hit it with light blows by a hammer. Dust out the cavity with a small broom and dampen it with water. This helps with the mortar sticking onto the bricks.
Remove excess mortar off the old brick by keeping the chisel at a high angle. Just like removing the mortar, use your hammer for light blows. Once you are done, clean it with a brush and rinse with water.
Add the new mortar to the bottom and sides of the cavity. Add the brick, once this process is done.
Using a ⅜ inch trowel, pack the mortar that is oozing from the joints. If you need to add more mortar, slide it directly on the trowel. Match the shape of the neighboring joints, and you are finished!
